Facebook Pages and Curation

Our Facebook page shares curation featured pieces.

The Lark’s Facebook page shares all curated and featured pieces. Make sure you follow it because this is where you can see what is being curated by Medium. There are many writers here at The Lark and at our other publication Lifestyle Today who have been successful in getting curated.

If you have not been curated then here are a few tips to help you

If you want to be curated, you must learn to set out your piece in a certain way. Also read Medium’s helpful curation rules.

For example, one of the things that may not get you curated…

  1. Is if you advertise yourself by sharing your books or your works extensively hoping for someone to buy them on the page where you write your fictional short story or your poetry. Sharing books on amazon to benefit yourself may not get you curated.
  2. Another thing that may not get you curated is spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes.
  3. Your title and subtitle must be set in a certain way. The subtitle must be interesting, short, have no punctuation, and be in the smaller ‘T’ style heading.
  4. The photo you use may not get you curated. Using Unsplash photos or your own is better in my opinion. Place the photo under the subtitle and in the image’s caption area make sure the owner’s name is there and the name of where the photo comes from ie. Unsplash. Also, you must supply a link to where the photo comes from. Don't forget you can search for Unsplash images in draft space by clicking on the ‘plus sign +’ and then click on the ‘round search button’. Then type a word in the line space to search for Unsplash photos. Damaging photos will not get you curated ie. pictures of children holding guns or photos of a sexual nature or nudity.
  5. Longer pieces also seem to be curated rather than short ones, eg. I am not sure if a haiku short poem has ever been curated as yet. Read these rules from Medium about distribution on short-form stories (stories under 150 words).
  6. Do not share too many of your works at the bottom of the page. A minimum of one or two is all that’s needed.
  7. Write in a personal way if you are writing an article. I think Medium loves personal articles. So if you write for our other publication Lifestyle Today then do this there.
  8. Writing in American English instead of the English way seems to be a curation rule these days (ie. words like ‘center’ will be ‘center’ in American English style format). If you have registered with Grammarly then this will help you format your work. You may have noticed if you write for The Lark that your word spellings are changed from English to American style. So, now you know why. It’s one of The Lark’s rules and it’s for the purposes of curation.
